Portland

The wedding is in Northwest Portland’s Slabtown District, a short drive from Downtown Portland or the Pearl.

The easiest way to get here is, most likely, by plane. Portland’s airport (PDX) is one the of best in the nation, and easily accessible from most major US cities.

For those looking for a longer Pacific Northwest adventure, it’s also a relatively easy drive or train ride from Seattle.

Public Transit

Portland’s lightrail system is called the Max. Take the Red/Blue line from PDX towards Downtown Portland. There are a number of stops on both the East and West Sides of the river that provide easy access to hotels.

Rideshares

It’s about a $25-$35 Lyft or Uber ride from PDX to Downtown Portland. Head out of the lower level by baggage claim to arrival island 2 to get picked up. Cars usually will get to you within 10 minutes.

hAMPTON INN & SUITES PORTLAND/PEARL DISTRICT

The hotel is located in the heart of the Pearl District and is within walking distance to countless restaurants, shops and activities. To make reservations, simply call the hotel directly at 503.222.5200 and reference the Hindle/Banks Wedding to receive our wedding discount. You are able to make reservations all the way up to the day of the wedding. However, we recommend making your reservation as soon as possible as the rates may be less. You will receive a 15% discount off the best available rate for standard guestrooms or their spacious studio suites! For more information on the hotel or room types you can visit their website at portlandpearldistrict.hamptonbyhilton.com.

In addition to the Hampton Inn and Suites, there are a number of hotels in the Pearl District (a short rideshare or longer walk from the venue). We haven’t reserved any room blocks, as it sounds like a lot of people are planning to use airbnb or an equivalent rental site. Some other hotels, should you decide to go that route, include:

kIMPTON HOTEL MONACO

CANOPY BY HILTON

ACE HOTEL - PORTLAND

AIRBNB, ETC.

There are a number of options aside from hotels in the Portland Area. If you are interested in finding a short term rental through Airbnb, Vacasa, Homeaway or another website, we recommend booking early, as September is a popular time to visit Portland.

It’s hard to find find the time to discover all the magic of Portland in one trip…

Eat & Drink

Portland is a foodie’s city, recognized for great fare, breweries, and wineries. The Willamette Valley is known for arguably some of the best wine in North America, if not the world. Be sure to check out the food cart scene downtown (or in any other quadrant of the city) for a variety of food options.

Play

Portland has many options for play. The scenery in the Japanese and Rose Gardens is beautiful. Forest Park has great trail hikes with stunning mountain views throughout. The Oregon Zoo is located in Washington Park and is easily accessed by the Max.

If you’re not up for a hike but would love to see mountain and city views check out Pittock Mansion or Council Crest.

OMSI and Portland Art Museum are also great options if indoors is more your speed.

Explore

One of Portland’s greatest assets is its proximity to so much diverse, natural beauty.

In a little over an hour drive to the west, you’ll find the Oregon Coast. Astoria to the north and Newport to the south, you could easily spend a week exploring the small towns dotting the coast-line.

Mt. Hood looms over Portland to the east. You can enjoy organized activities at Timberline lodge or set off on a hike along any of the many trails in the area. Trillium Lake is by far one of our favorite spots to escape to.

Just down 84 from Portland, you’ll find Multnomah Falls - which is well worth seeing. If crowds aren’t your thing, though, you may want to consider exploring one of the many other less-known cascades throughout the area. Continue down the freeway and you’ll end up in Hood River, a town with special meaning to us (it’s where Korey proposed!). Hood River could easily be a day’s-worth of adventure.
